Charles Stiernberg MD - Houston, TX
Our mid-sized multi-specialty group wanted to venture into value based contracting but no one in the clinic had any experience. Hence, we vetted numerous hospital systems, payors, IPA's, and other clinics to find a suitable partner. Finally, we turned to TMA PracticeEdge who introduced us to Innovista, which we found to have decades of experience in this arena. This was the perfect solution by allowing us to remain independent while "partnering" with an experienced company.
From our first introduction to Innovista, it has been perfectly clear that they understand physicians are the "engines that pull the train" in the new ear of value based care. Unlike many hospital based organizations trying to get into value based health delivery, Innovista has tremendous respect and understanding for this physician centric model.
Our clinic had operated on fee-for-service contracts for decades with minimal managed care contracting and essentially practice episodic care medicine, i.e. patients only coming in after they developed health problems. Innovista began teaching us the new roles to be played in practicing population health management and preventive care, and continues to walk with us, as this learning curve is an ongoing process. Both Innovista and we, the physicians, bring different but important skills and knowledge to the table, all of which are sharply focused on achieving our mutual goals.
While we are still in the early stages of our contracts, it has become blatantly clear that we could not have chosen a better "partner" than Innovista to delve into the new era of value based health care.
